Audio Interchange File Format (AIFF) is an audio file format standard used for storing sound data for personal computers and other electronic audio devices

mp3

MP3 is an audio file format, based on MPEG (Moving Picture Expert Group) technology. It creates very small files suitable for streaming or downloading over the Internet

Wav...

The WAV sound file format, also known as 'wave', 'movie sound file' and 'Windows sound format', is a video file used to save and record short sound clips. They are normally not used for recording and saving long pieces of music or sound.

Decibel...

A unit used to measure the intensity of a sound or the power level of an electrical signal by comparing it with a given level on a logarithmic scale

Hertz...

the SI unit of frequency, equal to one cycle per second

Frequency...

The rate at which a vibration occurs that constitutes a wave, either in a material (as in sound waves), or in an electromagnetic field (as in radio waves and light), usually measured per second

Track...

A section of a record, compact disc, or cassette tape containing one song or piece of music.

Channel...

A band of frequencies used in radio and television transmission, esp. as used by a particular station

Stereo...

Sound that is directed through two or more speakers so that it seems to surround the listener and to come from more than one source; stereophonic sound

Which method offers the greatest compression ratio?

Lossy data compression video codes generally provide the greatest compression ratio.
The video can be compressed at 100:1 ratio while audio and still images can often be compressed at 10:1.
The compression rate of lossy is about 5-6% while Lossless compression is about 50-60%

What is the difference between Lossy and Lossless data compression?

A lossy data compression method is one where compressing data and then decompressing it retrieves data that may well be different from the original, but is "close enough" to be useful in some way.Lossless data compression make use of data compression algorithms that allows the exact original data to be reconstructed from the compressed data. The advantage of lossy methods over lossless methods is that in some cases a lossy method can produce a much smaller compressed file than any known lossless method, while still meeting the requirements of the application.

Why is data compression an important technique for the online world?

Data compression is an important technique for the online world as it helps decrease the the consumption of expensive resources such as hard drive space.

What is a data compression ratio?

Data compression ratio also known as compression power, is the term used to quanitfy the reduction in data- represenation size produced by a data compression algorithm. The ratio is identified between the compressed size and the uncompressed size.

What is data compression?

Data compression is particularly useful in communications because it enables devices to transmit or store the same amount of data in fewer bits. Data compression is also widely used in backup utilities, spreadsheet applications, and database management systems. Certain types of data, such as bit-mapped graphics, can be compressed to a small fraction of their normal size.

Storyboard/Script...

(MUSIC PLAYING THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE VIDEO BUT AT DIFFERENT VOLUMES)

SCENE 1-
(lights switched off the turn off and camera faces Navneet: slow zoom in)
Navneet: And welcome again to another episode of Coffee with Navu brought you by the 4g apple iphone. where we interview different celebrities every time.

SCENE 2-
(parts of the episodes of Harry Potter play where Hermione is in them)

Navneet: so could you guess who our celebrity is today?
(close up of navneet)
(pictures of emma watson are shown)
Navneet: Yep, it’s Emma Watson who acts as Hermione Granger in Harry Potter.
(Adriana walks in dressed like Emma Watson: dolly shot then sits down)

SCENE 3-
(Close up of Adriana then a mid level shot of both, Adriana and Navneet)

Adriana: hey, thanks for having me in your show.
Navneet: it is a pleasure to have you here. So Emma, today we have 3 questions to ask you about your job from your fans out there.
(Close up of Navneet and then a reaction shot of Adriana and a mid level shot of both Adriana and Navneet)
Adriana: well great! I’m ready...
(Close up of Adriana)

SCENE 4-
(A mid level shot of Adriana and Navneet)

Navneet:  Question 1-  How was your last day of filming? How did you feel?
Adriana:  well, umm... It was a really sad time knowing that I’ll leave the people who I’ve been with for so long for filming since a young age.
(close up shot zooming in slowly into a diagonal high angle shot)
 SCENE 5-
(Close up of Navneet)

Navneet:  Question 2- If you try to fail, and succeed, which have u done?
(Adriana laughs then smiles and faces the camera as if looking at audience)
Adriana: Well, I’ll say I’ve succeeded in completing my first filming, Harry Potter, as successful movie known worldwide.
(close up of Adriana and then a mid level shot)
(Navneet smiles and laughs in the end of her sentence)

SCENE 6-
(A mid level shot and then gradually fades into a close up shot of Navneet)

Navneet: Great! All right, last question- Do you enjoy your celebrity star status? How does it feel to be the most desirable woman on the earth?
(Close up of Adriana smiling again till the end)

Navneet: is it too hard to answer??
(quick reaction shot of Navneet asking the question)
Adriana: Well, yea, pretty hard to explain, but I’ll try have a go at answering it. Being a celebrity and the most desirable woman on earth is great, but sometimes you won’t be able to have some private time and enjoy life. Too many fans everywhere surrounding every action you may do!
(A reaction and then a close up shot of Adriana)
(both laugh together)

SCENE 7-
(close up of Navneet in this scene - looks as if she is talking to the audience)

Navneet: Well great for having you here to tell us more about yourself. But before you leave, you must sign the celebrity coffee mug, its a tradition of coffee with navu every celebrity that comes signs their mug at the end of the show.
(mid level shot of Adriana and Navneet)
(both smile, then a full shot of karin's sister walking in dressed all pretty and a close up of Karin's sister handing over the texta marker to Adriana , smiles at Adriana then exits and there is a full shot of her exiting)
(Adriana signs the mug it is a zoom in/close up onto the mug when she is signing it)
Adriana: again thanks, for having me here.
(close up of Adriana)
Navneet: Thanks
(close up of Navneet)
(get up and both shake hands and camera goes focus and there is a full of both)

SCENE 8-
(zoom in/close up of Navneet)

Navneet: And that’s it for today’s show. Hope to see you next time on Coffee with Navu. Brought you by the 4g apple iphone.
(lights go off again and the camera moves up to the dark background/the video fades into credits and music plays louder)

What is meant by “generation loss”, where does it happen?

(1) The loss of quality when copying or printing data. The more copies are used, rather than originals, and saved the higher the quality loss.

(2) In video terminology it is video degradation caused by successive recordings from the original source (dubs from dubs). Generation loss also results from analog duplication of original video recording.

Describe what a codec is

"Codec" is a technical name for "compression/decompression". It also stands for "compressor/decompressor" and "code/decode". All of these variations mean the same thing: a codec is a computer program that both shrinks large movie files, and makes them playable on your computer. Codec programs are required for your media player to play your downloaded music and movies.

What is an IEEE 1394 port

A very fast external bus standard that supports data transfer rate of up to 400Mbps (in 1394a) and 800Mbps (in 1394b). Products supporting the 1394 standard go under different names, depending on the company. Apple, which originally developed the technology, uses the trademarked name FireWire. The IEEE 1394 port works similarly to a USB drive.

Which standard do we use in Australia?

Majority of the world uses PAL so basically it is clear that Australia would use PAL as well.

Explain the video standards PAL, NTSC, and SECAM, what are the main differences between them

PAL: Stands for Phase Alternating Line, is the analogue video format. The name "Phase Alternating Line" describes the way that part of the colour information on the video signal is reversed in phase with each line, which automatically corrects phase errors in the transmission of the signal.

NTSC: The National Television Standards Committee. The NTSC format consists of 29.97 interlaced frames of video a second, each consisting of 480 lines of vertical resolution out of a total of 525 (the rest are used for sync, vertical retrace, and other data such as captioning)

SECAM: (Sequentiel Couleur avec Mémoire, French for "sequential color with memory") is an analog television system, using frequency modulation to encode chrominance information. It is so named because it uses memory to store lines of colour information, in order to eliminate the colour artifacts found on systems using the NTSC standard.

Introduction To Videos....

1. What are some advantages of digital video?
  • You can upload videos to the computer very easily
  • You can edit digital videos on the computer
  • You can insert them into other forms of media, for example: document, files
  • Digital videos are electronic so you can easily email or copy the video into any device.
2. What is meant by frame rate in video?
In motion pictures, television, and in computer video displays, the frame rate is the number of frames or images that are projected or displayed per second. Frame rates are used in synchronizing audio and pictures, whether film, television, or video. For Example: If a netball match is being filmed, there would be a lot of movement so a lower frame will have an effect of the quality of the video.

3. Are all videos/movies the same frame rate, explain your answer
No not all videos and movies have the same frame rate, they are all different because there would be different number of images being projected per second. There is a different frame rate for videos and movies, for example:
television- 25 fps per second
film- 29.97 fps per second

4. What is meant by resolution, how is it measured?
Resolution is the term used to describe the number of dots, or pixels, used to display an image.
dpi- dots per inch

5. What is the colour system called RGB?
The main purpose of the RGB color model is for the sensing, representation, and display of images in electronic systems, such as televisions and computers, though it has also been used in conventional photography.

Video Decision...

Karin and I were having difficulties to decide on what to do our video on. So Mr Cavill gave us some suggestions to for a video. Some suggestions were an interview, instruction video, or maybe even something unusual. So Karin and I decided to do a prank video, so we would do pranks on people at school and record their reactions of it. But we had to change that idea about pranks because we were not allowed to record at school. So Karin and I decided to do an interview video, where we asks questions to the celebrity and have a bit of a chit chat with them.
Cast-
Navneet: host
Adriana: Emma Watson
Karin: video recorder
Karins's sister: host's assistant
