Careers in Digital Graphics...

Graphic Design-
What does the person in the career do? A graphic designer is responsible for arranging and using elements on different types of media (such as a poster, a package or a website), most likely with the use of a graphic software program such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or InDesign.
Where would you see this person work? Graphic design is all around us. It is in our morning paper, on our commute to work, and on the cover of our favorite books. The most common forms include:
  • Logos
  • Websites
  • Business Cards
  • Advertisements
  • Book Design
  • Brochures
  • Billboards
  • Product Packaging
  • Posters
  • Magazine Layout
  • Newspaper Layout
  • Greeting Cards
What training is needed for the career?
Additional selection criteria: Year 12 applicants are selected on the basis of their ATAR. Interview optional.
Major studies: Advertising, digital and experimental design, graphic design, illustration, packaging and branding, print design, typography.
Minor studies: Acting, animation and visual effects, design for theatre and television, jewellery, multimedia arts, photography, television production.
Practical experience: Placement with design agencies, print and publishing companies and the advertising industry.
Professional recognition: Graduates are eligible for membership of the Design Institute of Australia and Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA).
Career opportunities: Examples include art direction and design for advertising, packaging, corporate identity, web and print; freelance illustration and photography.
What kind of software and hardware is used? Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or Indesign.
Animation-
What does the person in the career do? An animator produces multiple images called frames. When sequenced together rapidly, these frames create an illusionof movement known as animation.
Where would see this person work? Animators can find full-time employment with movie or television production companies, with advertisers, wed design firms, video game comapnies or with animation firms. 
What training is needed for the career?

Major studies: Animation, digital media production, drama and documentary production, interactive media (DVD/CD-ROM), networked media (web/ broadband), short film/video production, sound design, television production. Wide elective choices include advertising/marketing, computing, literary studies, script/creative writing.
Career opportunities: Examples include CD-ROM developer/producer, digital media designer, sound designer, film/video/television production/post-production, web designer/manager/publisher, digital animator, digital compositor, digital media artist.
Additional information: Combines high-level practical media production in state-of-the-art digital facilities with flexible theoretical studies in relevant communications areas. Successful students may progress to honours and postgraduate work. A selection of arts and design foundation units are available for students.
What kind of software or hardware is used? Flash, 3D studio max, Maya, Lightwave, Softimage and Cinema 4D.
